Karen was born in the northeast with a country heart and soul. She has led a life filled with music from the early days of busking Dylan songs in the streets of Harvard Square to studying Jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music. She worked professionally as a solo country blues guitarist, a session bass player, and a songwriter before the power of Twang came into her life in the form of an early 70s Emmons push-pull pedal steel guitar. Since that day Karen has been pedal steelin' her way around New England and not lookin' back !

When not busy with Girl Howdy, Karen works as a session player with various projects in the Boston area including Jenee Halstead Band, Big City Ramblers, and Run 8 Rider. She is a regular at country music jamborees and steel guitar shows. Karen still plays her little blue Emmons as well as a custom made Jackson Steel Guitar and loves her Fender Steel King amp. She is influenced by Ralph Mooney, Tom Brumley, Buddy Emmons, Lloyd Green and Sneaky Pete.
